Dad at the doctor's, eating healthy, and Wii fitness

Yesterday, Dad got a port in his chest through which the doctors will be administering chemotherapy, so that's something. When I talked to him yesterday on Skype, he mostly just seemed happy to be able to take his anti-inflammatory medicine again, something he wasn't able to do for a couple days to prepare for the procedure.

Our eating is going well. We're eating lots of fresh fruits and vegetables while trying to use up things from the freezer and pantry. Seriously, I get why people stockpile food. Every time it snows I dread having to lift grocery bags above snow banks on my walk home and instead dream of a stocked freezer and pantry, like a real pantry, not the bottom half of a bookshelf, but it's not a great choice for an apartment you'll inhabit for half a year. Nevermind the kind of salt and more eyebrow-elevating preservatives that go into things that last a while on shelves. So despite the weather, I'm keeping us on the path of fresh fruits and veggies, as few pre-made meals and sides as possible.

The pup is great. We've been having some issues with weird defiant behavior, but we're chalking it up to him resisting our more authoritative style of dog ownership and moving forward. The worst of it is probably happening now, and it's not too bad.

Working out at on the Wii is going really well. The bf and I have been killing it at EA Sports Active 2. We're both doing the nine-week fitness plan, which has us doing a combination of strength training and cardio four times a week. Since I want to accelerate the results from working out, I'm going to start working Wii Fit Plus yoga and lower-intensity cardio into my off-EA Sports workout days.

I'm definitely going to write up a review and contrast of the Wii Fit games and EA Sports Active 2, in the meantime my main thoughts are that while EASA2 has you sweating hard with an intense combination of strength training and short bursts of cardio, it's hard to do a long, sustainable cardio session comparable to Wii Fit's 30 minute free run or long hula hoop or rhythm boxing. While I'm all for intensity, I don't always want to leave my workouts feeling like I got hit by a bus. So I'm sticking (enthusiastically!) with both the shiny new EA Sports Active 2 game and the old standby of Wii Fit.

I'm afraid that's all for now. Since I realized today how easy it is to pop images from my digital camera to my computer, I have no excuse now not to snap a million pictures of the city. And since it rained a lot today, maybe the snow will be melted and will stop throwing off the white balance on my camera! Here's hoping.
